He's an FDR Democrat, an old school Liberal who has also learned to mouth the modern political shibboleths on sexuality, race and abortion correctly for the new Liberals.

I've been watching a lot of old footage of Bernie and I'd say he's more influenced by the New Left than anything else. Which means he probably grew up reading The Motorcycle Diaries, Prison Notebooks, and One-Dimensional Man as opposed to The General Theory of Employment, Interest and Money (though he probably got around to reading that too).

Can't say that I'm a big fan of Che, Gramsci, or Marcuse, myself. Or Keynes, for that matter. Maybe it's just me. But you're probably right about Sanders.

Does Sanders try to separate socialism from authoritanianism

Does the sun come up in the morning.

When Bernie says socialism, he means like Denmark... (which is less authoritarian than America)

So the implication is he also agrees that socialism and authoritanism are separate matters.

I already said, the statement is logical so I personally have no problem with that.

However, as there have been numerous past socialism implementations that had gone wrong, we also need to ensure that the victims of these socialist regimes, many of whom (or their descendants) are probably American voters, do not feel alienated because someone tries to be fair on it.
