Miss Ardern might have forgot a bit that Australia is a country largely set up by exportees.

Convict heritage aside, it’s rude for her to say that Australia created these “problems” as it’s likely generational. Not nice Jacinda. Not nice.

It's beneficial for New Zealand that it gets internationally frequently mistaken as being a state of Australia....

But they should stop designing NZD coins to work on machines designed to accept AUD. It's called piggybacking and it's not fair.

It does not help that NZ seems to be very alone in the World, geographically acting like a stepping stone between Australia and Antarctica.

I agree with Ardern. Traditionally Australia and NZ have had a very close relationship. Same goes for the Pacific Islands.

Australia’s political class has become very stingy since Keating and his Chicago school economic rationalists took over. This has cost a lose in influence in the S Pacific that China was only too happy to take advantage off. The government has only belatedly woken up to the strategic costs. A Chinese air and navy base like those in the SCS, located in the Solomon Islands, would totally compromise Canberra’s geopolitical options regarding China. NZ is also vital to Australia’s long term interests.

So the people at the top in Canberra are basically a bunch of miserly tools. But we have known this for a long time. I can’t say state or local level politicians are any better. They see the short term cash and nothing else. A good example is NSW gov screw ups in managing Norfolk Island. All because they are too stingy.

Australia needs leadership with vision. Instead we have these greedy fools.

You think Australia’s motivation for ridding itself of people who don’t meet character requirements is money?

Sure. It is expensive holding people in jail. What other motivation can there be? Throwing out Kiwis who have lived in Australia since a few weeks old will deter newly arrived few week old kiwi babies from commuting crime?

But they’re coming out of jail. Unless we’re assuming they will re-offend?

Nah, I think it has more to do with the fact they aren’t citizens.
