Educating yourself about the virus might help before you rant on about anecdotal evidence and ridiculous stories you've heard. They're dumb and you make yourself appear stupid by talking like that.

Facts:
Covid-19's death rate is 1.3% for your parents, in their 50s. That is 26 times deadlier than the "flu".

Covid-19 is a pneumonia, not a flu.

Pretending anyone who is getting on in years doesn't have a comorbidity is wishful thinking. Things like stress and mental illness are also comorbidities.

Anecdotal evidence isn't evidence. They are just "stories".

A pneumonia is a developed condition and not specifically a virus. It usually develops in conjunction with multiple kinds of infections.

I wonder if all of the salon owners violating the lockdown are thinking, "today is a good day to dye."

How scary. Dying hair that ends up killing everyone, like in a Hollywood horror movie that sells products like repressive measures, mandatory ID vaccines that might have a eugenics agenda (who knows?), and universal prison-like surveillance.

Dogs who obey their masters get the best leashes and dog houses to spend time alone in.

I'm making plenty of money during the lockdown. It doesn't affect me at all. I think they should stop, because they destroy the economy and are generally ineffective. Sweden has done fine.

Sweden: 58,932 cases.
Deaths: 5,122

Their infection rate is rising. They should not be the country you look to.

Sweden: 10 million people
USA: 320 Million people.

Sweden would fit inside OR and CA.

Swedes are more socially responsible than Yanks. (They don't have Covid parties)

Sweden has a less "hands on" culture.

So what? Sweden has population dense areas and population sparse areas. Yet, it has few deaths per 1M than Belgium, the UK, Spain or Italy with no lockdown. Its confirmed case fatality rate is lower than much of the rest of Europe too.

Indeed. That's why we should model them on handling the coronavirus.

Godstud wrote:You're not as smart as you pretend you are, if you can't see these vast differences.

I see these vast differences. Belgium, the UK, Spain and Italy have the highest death rates in Europe. So much for government-run healthcare. The US confirmed case fatality rate isn't even in the top 30. Trump is doing an awesome job. Don't you just love statistics?

The official stats from the trauma center where the story originated show that it's one doctor having a bad day and getting overexcited when a TV crew called.

"Contra Costa County sees about 100 suicide deaths per year, and officials said that that's remained stable so far in 2020."

Since March, when quarantine began, the county has seen 26 deaths that were determined to be suicides. Last year, the county saw 30 suicides between March and May.

As of the day the ABC7 report was published, Contra Costa County had seen 36 deaths that were attributed to COVID-19.

At the same time, ingliz, there are many people who, when you tell them that lockdowns will provoke deaths from depression, suicide, drug overdoses, alcohol abuse, and domestic violence... look at you like you're crazy because COVID FEAR-PORN didn't tell them this. Maybe COVID FEAR-PORN forgot to mention this?

There is a great deal of speculation, but little real information.

In fact, doctors won’t know for many months if suicide is spiking in 2020; each death must be carefully investigated to determine its cause. The rolling impact of Covid-19 on these rates give scientists a sense of how extended uncertainty and repeating undercurrents of anxiety affect people’s will to live.

Research done in the wake of natural disasters offers little guidance as to how this group will respond. In a widely cited 1999 paper in The New England Journal of Medicine, researchers from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention reported that, in communities hit by an earthquake, flood or hurricane, rates of suicide spiked in the years after. But the study authors later retracted that finding, after discovering an error that, when corrected, revealed “no significant increase in suicide rates after natural disasters, either for all types of disasters combined or for individual types of disasters.” Other studies have found increases, or decreases, depending on the group and disaster studied.

There's no information about much of anything except the accelarating number of "cases" in "country X" as it trembles in fear of the "Second Wave."

It seems like if we don't give up the few civil liberties we still have left since 911, we will all die of terrorism and coronaviruses, perhaps sent to us by some Latin American leftwing government.

Seriously, the new normal is brain-dead media recluse.

There is so little social capital left in capitalist Western countries that the media can tell us anything, and we have no community of people with opinions to discuss this with - except online where the speech can be carefully censored - often by the brain-dead media recluses themselves.

It's been a while, but those appeals were pretty convincing, weren't they?

That's because the commercial media that we get most of our ignorance from is very sophisticated.
