Taking this to its logical conclusion means that the rioters have a constitutional right to pursue violence(and even gun violence) to achieve their stated aims.

We all know that is not the real reason. Right-wingers simply get a hard on from carrying a gun.

Red_Army wrote:Cops just arrested CNN reporters for obsequiously asking where they should stand. I'm gonna guess that the police response will be ugly.

I actually see that as a symptom of something completely different: The cops don't know what to do with the protesters and so they just carry out arrests on easy targets like journalists. There will almost surely be other similar arrests of people who are there but aren't breaking the law.

This means that it's too late for a police response, and it also means this looks a lot like LA in 1992 (with the difference that what triggered the riots there was mild in comparison with what happened in Minneapolis). This will be even more resembling of LA if the Minnesota National Guard is unable to restore control in the same way the California National Guard was unable to restore control in LA without Federal help.

Honestly how hard is it:
1)Investigate the cop and put him in jail for abuse of an unarmed suspect or whatever it is in US law.
2)Send in the national guard and quell the riots if the police alone is not enough. Peaceful protest is okay while violent riots are not. Since pillaging already started this is a riot.

Will everyone be happy? Fuck no. BUt there is no resolution where everyone will be happy. Just keep the average people who don't want a riot and don't want to riot safe.

Unthinking Majority wrote:So you support the riots? Nice violence-supporting narrative.

The cops killing the guy was wrong. Jim Crow was wrong. MLK did it without violence in a far more racist environment.

MLK would not have been successful without people like Stokely Carmichael, Malcolm X, and Fred Hampton.

Protests like this, unfortunately, sometimes lead to riots. No one wins when there's a riot.

The government, however, could have prevented this by ensuring there was justice. Instead, they chose to again ignore the outrage at injustice.
