Viral vaccines, as opposed to bacterial vaccines, are far more difficult to develop. The US, incidentally, has already pulled out of a world-wide agreement between vaccine-developing nations. Whether this will result in delays for us here in the United States of America remains to be seen. In actuality, depending upon the results of the up-coming election, that possible roadblock may be eliminated.

From my understanding the reaction was some rare spinal condition. I doubt it was related to the vaccine although I suspect it will get the anti vaxxers knickers in a twist.
