Fox News wrote:Arms trafficking caused Mexican gov to sue U.S. gun manufacturers
Some of the Manufacturers being sued include: Smith & Wesson Brands, Inc.; Barrett Firearms Manufacturing, Inc., and Beretta U.S.A. Corp.

The Mexican government sued United States gun manufacturers and distributors Wednesday in U.S. federal court, arguing that their negligent and illegal commercial practices have unleashed tremendous bloodshed in Mexico.

The unusual lawsuit was filed in U.S. federal court in Boston. Among those being sued are some of the biggest names in guns, including: Smith & Wesson Brands, Inc.; Barrett Firearms Manufacturing, Inc.; Beretta U.S.A. Corp.; Colt’s Manufacturing Company LLC, and Glock Inc. Another defendant is Interstate Arms, a Boston-area wholesaler that sells guns from all but one of the named manufacturers to dealers around the U.S.

The Mexican government argues that the companies know that their practices contribute to the trafficking of guns to Mexico and facilitate it. Mexico wants compensation for the havoc the guns have wrought in its country. ...

...in 2019 alone, at least 17,000 homicides were linked to trafficked weapons. ...

Financial Post wrote:Mexico sues U.S. gun makers, eyes $10 billion in damages
MEXICO CITY — Mexico sued several gun makers in a U.S. federal court on Wednesday, accusing them of reckless business practices that supply what it called a “torrent” of illegal arms to violent Mexican drug cartels, leading to thousands of deaths. ...

Interesting turning of tables.

The USA has been bombing Latin America with chemical weapons and assasinating people left and right... because of drugs that have entered the USA from various countries. Rather than suing, the USA bombs and kills.

Mexico is unable to bomb Smith and Wesson, and anyways, this would be the wrong approach for "stopping violence."

Mind you, is bombing villages the right way to deal with the USA's drug problems? Probably not. AMLO probably has the right idea.

It is the rich man's way of pretending his children's vices are the fault of the poor kids on the other side of the tracks. Of course, that is why the war on drugs failed. As long as there was demand for it from the US, someone was gonna supply it.

Yes. So do you support AMLO's attempt to sue the US government?

Or do you think this is more of the "blame the salesmen" scapegoating for what is an internal Mexican problem?

Do the USA gun dealers deserve no blame at all?

I believe third world countries have many grounds for suing many a colonialist, or neo colonialist power. Big Corporations as well. I dont know the merits of the AMLO case, but it can be one of many suits. I default in favour of the poor suing the rich. It is hard to see some poor man that has not been screwed. :)

I agree that this happens a lot.

But won't it happen again?

If Mexico somehow "wins" this lawsuit, won't the "rich side" just find some other way of counter-screwing Mexico, perhaps in a much more harsh way so as to teach this "upstart" a lesson?
