Looks like good ole Stacey Abrams is running to be governor of Georgia and I look forward to voting for her! Go, Stacey!

Dan Merica and Michael Warren of CNN wrote:Georgia Democrat Stacey Abrams announced on Wednesday that she is running for governor, setting up a possible rematch with Georgia GOP Gov. Brian Kemp in what could become one of the most closely watched races in the country.
The voting rights advocate and former top Democrat in the Georgia House of Representatives tweeted her announcement, saying she is running "because opportunity in our state shouldn't be determined by zip code, background or access to power."

Abrams' announcement is a boon for Democrats. Abrams ran for governor in 2018, losing to Kemp by 1.4 points, but her campaign vaulted her into the upper echelons of the Democratic Party and made her a fundraising force who will be able to throw millions at a run. Democrats believe demographic and political changes in Georgia -- as evidenced by President Joe Biden's electoral victory there last year and the state being represented by two Democrats in the Senate -- make it more possible for a Democrat to become the top executive in the state.

"That's the job of governor -- to fight for one Georgia, our Georgia," Abrams said in her announcement video. "And now, it is time to get the job done."

Abrams is also expected to clear the Democratic field in the race, something that has not been the case for Kemp and Republicans. After drawing the ire of former President Donald Trump for not more forcefully going along with his baseless claims of voter fraud in Georgia and elsewhere in the 2020 election, Trump turned on Kemp and has pledged to make him politically pay for his disloyalty.

I imagine it won’t be long before ads pop up hilighting how many millions of dollars her false accusations of racism helped cost the citizens of Atlanta.

@late, you know, the usual Leftist hyperventilating about the "racism" of any laws that strengthen (or even simply re-establish) voter integrity laws. In this case, how Abrams' lies (among many others) about Georgia's new voter integrity law led the MLB to move the All-Star Game from Atlanta (51% Black) to Denver (9% Black).

I hope she'll demolish that piece of scumsucking, horsefucking, waste of space and general piece of human garbage Brian Kemp. How can it possibly be allowed to supervise an election that you are yourself running in?

Last time he opened an investigation of possible cyber crimes against Georgia Democrats 2 days before the election. Who had really done the hacking? Homeland Security, who had been contracted by Kemp's office to test its security. :lol:

Georgia’s Kemp lobs evidence-free hacking allegation at Democrats on eve of vote

Kemp’s office opens investigation into Georgia Democrats for ‘possible cyber crimes

Law Enforcement Files Discredit Brian Kemp’s Accusation That Democrats Tried to Hack the Georgia Election

Kemp's claim that Democrats hacked state election site not true, report finds

Did anyone actually hack the site? Prior intrusions into the site were actually cybersecurity tests conducted by the federal Department of Homeland Security, which had been contracted by Kemp's office to do the work.

The Political Act of Blaming Someone for a Cyberattack

But Kemp’s decision to deflect attention from his state’s insecure elections infrastructure by blaming an attempted attack on his political rivals was not an act of ignorance or incompetence. It was malicious and manipulative, no question, but it was also, in its way, profoundly savvy.

I'll vote for her, but I don't trust the republicans in the state of Georgia to not rig the election given the recent voter suppression laws passed after Donald Trump lost the vote here in Georgia. I don't trust the republicans in this state to run a fair election here in the state of Georgia given they are the ones responsible for passing voter suppression laws. If she loses it could very well be because they rigged the election or it was because of those voter suppression laws republicans passed to get a pre-determined outcome they wanted instead of allowing a truly free, honest, and fair election.

The fact that the republicans passed voter suppression laws brings into question any sort of republican victory and if that victory is really legitimate when running against a democrat. Stacy Abrams refused to concede the last election she lost because she sort of felt that the republicans in this state rigged the election to get a pre-determined outcome.

I am a bit suspicious as well, but they did acknowledge that Trump lost in Georgia. At least, this time they did. But because they passed those laws afterwards, it leaves open the door as to whether any republican victory is truly legitimate in the aftermath of those voter suppression laws being passed.

Well, they didn't have it locked when Trump lost there. So, if they have locked it now, then that can only mean one thing: the voter suppression laws are preventing a free, fair and honest election and any election victory by a republican can bought into question now as to it's legitimacy.

They've manipulated the system enough to give them the edge back. If it doesn't work, they will cry fraud again, and then further suppress the votes of people they don't want voting.

@Rancid

Yeah, well the problem with that is that if the republicans do win an election against a democrat, the democrats have more of a case to cry foul and challenge the election results or refuse to recognize the election results. Remember, Stacy didn't concede the last election she lost. If she loses this time, it's hard to say how this could potentially go.

She's gonna lose, so we'll see where it goes. Doubtful democrats are rabid enough to try and overthrow a state election.

@Rancid

That may be true, but that could send many people into the streets in protest if the election is perceived not to be fair and rigged by the republicans because of the voter suppression laws and/or if they try to play additional tricks. Moreover, it could bring pressure upon the state to ensure truly free and fair elections. Stacy has shown she is not likely to just go away quietly into the night.

That doesn't sound good. She would be the monster Republicans are, two wrongs don't make a right.

I guess it would depend on the situation and circumstances in regards to if Stacy Abrams would be acting as a monster or not. If the republicans played dirty tricks and it was clear that Abrams was the true winner, she might not necessarily be the monster in such case. It would be the republicans who would be acting as the monster if it is clear that she really was the true winner and were denying that to her. If she walked away, she could be just allowing democracy to be destroyed.

That could be viewed as irresponsible and a bad decision too for accommodating republicans when they clearly lost and allowing them to subvert the vote. Sometimes, the better decision is to stand and fight for the democracy depending on the objective facts of the situation if you want the vote to really matter in the future. Otherwise, why even bother with having elections anymore?

We might as well just call ourselves a dictatorship of republicans and acknowledge the fact democracy doesn't exist and that the will of the American people doesn't matter and isn't represented in government. The United States would have to stop talking about how people should live in a democracy and stop criticizing oppressive governments like China or Russia because we don't have a leg to stand on and are dwelling in a glass house ourselves. You have to be and do what you preach to others first.

My thesis is, it is too late. The US system is already compromised and we are just waiting for the other shoe to drop.
