Of course all convictions under these absurd rules be reverted, all fines repaid and compensation paid to the victims of these rules.

Everything indicates that things would have been worse under a Keir Stasi government.

They were HIS rules...

So an inconsistent Government punishes those without connections to the ruling elite while looking after their mates is fine?

Boris Johnson is running the country, not the Queen. The buck stops with him.

There are checks and balances in place to prevent the queen overriding government decisions.

Anyway. The fact is, Johnson’s abysmal behaviour is why his staff felt able to hold those parties and joke about it.

I want him to go his whole length and take the Tory party with him.

If he goes now, then the chances are they’ll make a good recovery with such another leading them. They’ll have time.

Trump will return, and restore BoJo's legitimacy, and more importantly, restore his honor.

You are such a Doomer sometimes. Trump will suck big Biden dick in a 2nd faceoff if it comes down to it.

So what about these photographs of Starmer at possible "work parties"? That's what I want to know about, because he's continually pushed for earlier, harder, longer lock downs. He's wanted more masks, more vaccines, stricter rulers. Boris has always been a reluctant COVID fascist. Sounds like Starmer's the hypocrite the Liberal media should be going after, if they weren't a bunch of lying dishonest hypocrites themselves.

Political Interest wrote:Well, he had tremendous domestic appeal independent of Trump. The pandemic and these scandals are what have caused a loss of support.

No, he didn't, they exploited the same populist wave, which was over with Trump's fall and without which his government lost its political foundation, plus there's his incompetence as well. However, he'd never have a chance without US support in the long term anyway, not to mention if the US government explicitly doesn't want him. The pandemic and the scandals wouldn't be enough to overthrow him if Trump still were POTUS, but the tide has turned, so BoJo has to go in any case.

You're right, it was a populist wave back in those times. I just think he would have gotten in based on the conditions of the time, and his appeal was not through Trump, he didn't market himself as the British Trump, although such comparisons have been made before.

Maybe you think Mary Beard won the debate. Maybe you think Johnson's not one of our greatest historians. Maybe you don't think he's not in the same class as a historian as Churchill, but how can anyone think that Boris is remotely similar to Trump?

Boris's political career has absolutely zero to do with Trump, regardless of how convenient Trump may appear to outsiders. And not because of the debate with Mary Beard that most people are totally unaware of anyway.

Boris was riding politics way before Trump even appeared to the scene.

Corbyn is the reason Boris skyrocketed and his hard Brexit gave him the edge for the greatest landslide ever.

Trump's nationalist politics legitimized a certain nationalism that probably influenced British voters to some extent, but that effect is rather miniscule when one accounts for the political wrangling that took place in the UK due to Corbyn and Theresa May.

Brexit and Boris predate Trump so it was Boris who helped Trump win and not the other way around. (In a very vague sense though)

His appeal wasn't through Trump, but the populist wave he based his politics on ended with Trump's defeat, plus the Brexit issue with the EU is also basically over. So he lost ground, within society as well as the Tory party.

A populist demagogue wiling to say pretty much anything to get elected, who tell ies as readily as breaths, with contempt for the rules and laws of the land. Who allows cronies and others to fill their pockets with public money. Vanishing small work etnic and basic inability or unwillingness to do teh job with any responsibility.

They are similar enough
