I didn't vote for Dan Andrews. Two governments involved in this fiasco.

And on the State level here in Victoria, Labor is currently more racist than the Liberals are. Problems with Labor Antisemitism are getting worse here in Victoria. Same as Corbyn in the UK. I support BDS, but Andrews publically targeted religious Jews for harassment three times during this crisis.

Deflection it was the Morrison Government that kicked Djokovic out. your criticism of government seems to be filtered according to the stripe.

The Liberal coalition rely of racism to get elected and openly court it. Labour does not.

Complete false equivalence. Applying the law equally is antisemtic. Yeah doll up dodgy cliams to prevents actually holding your guys to account. conspiracy theory tin foil hat stuff you trotted out about Pell.

Do you actually have standards of ethnics or merely partisanship?

Judges rule that the Immigration Minister's dictat against Djokovic did not "exceed his powers" because:

“There was no requirement upon the minister in exercising his powers… to afford Mr Djokovic natural justice,” said the judges.

There is no requirement from the minister to afford Djokovic 'natural justice'.

They also declared that the Minister "did not exceed his power" because preventing Djokovic from being in the country is ok because he would otherwise have an "impressionable anti-vaccination effect upon the young of Australia".

An iconic world tennis star may influence people of all ages, young or old, but perhaps especially the young and the impressionable, to emulate him. This is not fanciful; it does not need evidence.

“Even if Mr Djokovic did not win the Australian Open the capacity of his presence in Australia playing tennis to encourage those who would emulate or wish to be like him is a rational foundation for the view that he might foster anti-vaccination sentiment.

There you have it in Black & White. Djokovic was not tortured and deported because his documents were invalid as several of you parroting Australian gov's ridiculous excuses claimed. He was tortured and deported for holding anti-vaccination views.

noemon wrote:How are you supposedly standing for "law and order", when you cheerlead for executive decisions that undo the decisions of the bodies responsible for law & order in Australia? Are you not aware of the separation of powers? Between the executive, judicial and legal as a fundamental principle of a liberal democracy in contrast to the concentration of power in the faces of Ministers and the government as in North Korea, China and Russia?

Why are you cheerleading a clear slide into fascism and the undermining of the principles of a liberal democracy?

Fascism, seriously?

In any case, despite these executive powers being obviously problematic, the separation of powers was not violated. The executive did not interfere with the court's decision. The executive used its constitutional power to overrule the court's decision. Similar to how the POTUS can pardon people that were convicted.

You analogy is crap:

Making people innocent by executive order is a far cry to pronouncing people guilty by executive dictat.

Innocent until found guilty is a fundamental concept.

Proven innocent but declared guilty by executive dictat is a self-evident slide into fascism.

Guilty? He's simply not allowed to enter a foreign country. There's even an easy remedy: Not being a twat and getting vaccinated.

Pardoning criminals that were proven guilty in court is far worse.

If Australia does not want unvaccinated people in the country, then why did they legislate medical exemptions? Why did they grant Djokovic a medical exemption? And is it all unvaccinated or just the ones who are famous, or the ones who you deem as "twats"?

It's quite ridiculous that you feel that the law should be based on who you consider a "twat" and that you are attempting to justify an evident slide into fascism making it ok to declare people as 'public threats' based on ministerial whims.

There is an even easier remedy of Ministers doing their actual jobs instead of chasing a sportsman out of their country with dictats.

To make matters worse, Djokovic would not have been able to get vaccinated even if he wanted to because he had Covid in December and a minimum of 4 weeks need to pass before one gets the vaccine. But that is none of our business anyway since he had a valid medical exemption certificate granted to him by Australian authorities on a blind-review basis.

So you got a brand new conspiracy theory now after your previous one got ridiculed.

"evident slide into fascism"

What is this nonsense?

Djokovic's antivax opinions are irrelevant for his mistreatment, remember?

Just one correction Djokovic is not an antivax he is a pro-choice.
Djokovic has never said that people should not be vaccinated,
he's just said that everyone has the right to choose whether to be vaccinated or not.

SO Dijokovic was not planning on playing until he caught covid? That months before when he was planning on entering the tournament, he had not caught covid or been vaccinated (which he had a very long time to do) just how was he planning on getting a medical exemption to play?
#15208228
The Australian Tennis Federation initially gave him a medical exemption to invite him to the Aussie Open and he had necessary papers ready upon entering the country. In the letter written by the head of Tennis Australia, Craig Tiley, to the Australian Technical Advisory Group on Immunization (ATAGI), it was requested that the players with a recent Covid-19 infection or the single dose of the vaccine could be exempt of the immigration rules that require that people who arrive in the country be fully vaccinated. The treatment of tennis players, who fall into one of these categories, is critical to the viability of the Australian Open.

Tennis Australia boss Craig Tiley insists Novak Djokovic has qualified for a medical exemption from vaccination in order to compete at the Australian Open after meeting strict guidelines, assessed anonymously by two independent medical panels.

He says Djokovic met the strict guidelines set by government advisory group ATAGI (Australian Technical Advisory Group on Immunisation).

One possibility under the exemption guidelines is that Djokovic contracted COVID-19 within the past six months, after also coming down with coronavirus midway through 2020 at his ill-fated Adria Tour tennis tournament.

As Djokovic had not caught covid at that stage, on what basis did he have that medical exemption?

I remember that Novak Djokovic contracted Covid-19 at a tournament he created, which was held in Serbia between June and July last year. Djokovic caught the disease at a wild post-event party that was comparable to Boris Johnson's ill-fated parties. Tennis Australia was keen on inviting Djokovic no matter what because the Australian Open's prestige was at stake. As the Australian Open is the biggest sporting event in Australia comparable to the Tokyo Olympics, in which unvaccinated athletes could participate, it was reasonable to assume that Djokovic qualified for a medical exemption based on the said criteria.

Novak Djokovic's ill-fated charity tennis tournament has led to the world number one and a number of other pros testing positive for coronavirus.

Djokovic said he had "sincere intentions" when launching the Adria Tour tournament, and has acknowledged the event came too soon, but that hasn't stopped the widespread condemnation from his rivals and colleagues.

Here's how it's all gone down.

What was the Adria Tour tournament?
The Adria Tour 2020 was a tournament created by Djokovic, to be held in Serbia, Croatia, Montenegro, and Bosnia and Herzegovina between June 12 and July 5.

Announced in May, Djokovic was joined by international stars like Aleksander Zverev, Dominic Thiem, Grigor Dimitrov and Marin Cilic for the event.
