@Igor Antunov

It now looks like in the Russian occupied areas of Ukraine, a partisan war broke out. I thought you said there could be no partisan war in Ukraine. It was a REALLY, REALLY stupid move for Russia to invade Ukraine. What on Earth was Putin thinking? I mean, just the terrible judgement and the stupidity of it all. It just keeps getting worse for Russia every day. You can also be rest assured that those Ukrainians in the southern part of Ukraine, found to be cooperating with the Russian controlled government there, will be targeted by Ukrainian partisans. I am also sure that government officials of the Russian controlled government in the south will be targeted by Ukrainian partisans. This is a helluva mess Russia finds itself in currently. There doesn't seem to be any good way out for Putin.

Julia Kesaieva of CNN wrote:Ukrainian officials have spoken about a rising incidence of armed resistance in Russian-occupied parts of southern Ukraine.

On Thursday, Oleksiy Arestovych, an adviser to President Volodymyr Zelensky, said that sabotage by the Resistance Movement in Melitopol had resulted in the derailing of a Russian armored train. Melitopol has been occupied by the Russians since early March.

Arestovych claimed that railroad cars carrying personnel and ammunition overturned, detonating the ammunition.

"There was an explosion on the track, not of an armored train. Unfortunately, not a single occupier died in the explosion, they just got away with a minor scare. But what is important — Ukrainian guerrillas in the south are active and effective," he said.

Ivan Fedorov, the elected mayor of Melitopol, gave a similar account on Thursday. Fedorov is currently not in Melitopol. According to unofficial accounts from the area, the train consisted of 10 wagons, and railway tracks were damaged, the armored train was stopped, and a locomotive with 10 fuel tanks that was following the armored train was also stopped.

Separately, the Zaporizhzhia regional administration noted Thursday that "the Russian military does not allow railroad workers to be involved in track maintenance but continues heavy use of the railway. Such negligence plus actions of the Resistance Movement in Melitopol resulted a Russian armored train being derailed."

Arestovych indicated that the sabotage was not an isolated incident. "According to the available information, two high ranked Russian officers were eliminated," he said.

On Wednesday, the Zaporizhzhia military administration also said the guerrilla movement in Melitopol had "eliminated two Russian military servicemen of high rank. The occupiers are trying to conceal this situation. But today the occupiers have been searching private transport especially thoroughly, apparently looking for partisans."

CNN cannot independently confirm the attacks on the train or the Russian officers.

Arestovych also said that "leaflets are being disseminated all over" in occupied areas,

In recent days, graphic posters depicting Russian soldiers being killed by partisans have begun to appear in occupied parts of Zaporizhzhia and Kherson. It's unclear how widespread they are.

Russia's afganistan.... part two

In other news, looks like Russia has totally abandoned that 21 year old on trial in Ukraine. Of course, this makes sense, given Russia isn't even collecting its bodies.

Not exactly the same, because Bush's liberation campaign blew away Saddam as well as his regime, whereas Z-Rex's special operation couldn't do the same in Ukraine.

Turkey just blocked formal talks of Sweden and Finland's accession to NATO. It demands security guarantees from countries not to supply any arms to PKK and US backed forces in Northern Syria. It demands the US to okay sales of F-35s and F-16s and ending all embargoes on Turkey.

Doesn't matter.

While we will attempt to bribe Turkey with goodies, prob not enough to satisfy Erdogan.

Meanwhile, Finland and Sweden are already in. Informally, if not formally, but pressure is going to be applied to Turkey, and Erdogan really won't like it. He's been playing both sides off the middle, and now that Russia is a mess, he's lost his leverage at the same time he's upping the ante.

There has been already massive pressure on Turkey for a decade. You can't put more.

The secretary general of NATO also confirms Turkey's demands. They are not in. They will never be in if Turkey's demands are not met. They will have to face Russia by themselves. So Russia can hit them with continental missles as they are not NATO members.

As I told earlier, everybody should obey to what NATO's second most senior member says.

That's a great fantasy. Russia can't handle Ukraine. The Finns are some the toughest SOBs on the planet, and their military hardware is damn good. Putin may be delusional, but he's not that delusional.

It is a grim reality. That is why these two idiots beg to NATO.

It is also a trial for NATO to understand if all members are in solidarity with each other.

Maybe you should open a separate thread covering Erdogan's masterful bargaining and making history with it.

Russia is imploding, and his tanks are exploding. He isn't going to be invading elsewhere..

Your comments make me think Turkey could be headed for a rude shock. Just a guess, at this point, but there is a property of relationships called a snapback. If you push too hard, you get overextended, and bad things can happen.

You are not coherent. If Russia is not a danger, then these two should not join.

It is probably NATO to explode if Turkey's demands are not met. We'll see if we trust each other.

Thanks, that was a good belly laugh.

Let's put a pin in this and come back to it when the dust settles.

He should also ask for a US carrier strike group completely operated due to his wishes by the US. Because...why not? Or how about just asking for $100 billion in cash as well? Maybe he should ask for a moon-landing too.

War crimes always happen in war, like how they are still trying to get Assange for releasing video of some US soldiers gunning down reporters in Iraq.

I think it's painfully obvious that western politicians want to get the benefits of fighting a popular war without the downsides of actually fighting one and I think that's pretty cringe.
