What truth? If it was about nuclear materials or Trump selling nuclear materials to the Russians (Q clearance materials), we would have known it a day or two after the raid.

James Comey has been about as open as its possible for him to be, about his intentions over emailgate. He was trying to manipulate the elections to ensure that Hilary Clinton would be boxed in by Republican majorities in House and Senate. It just never occurred to him that Trump could actually win. When Trump did win, many in the deep state set about bringing him down with the false Russian claims. More recently we've had the Jan 6th coup nonsense. Jan 6th was not a coup. it was not an insurrection. It wasn't even a riot. it was just an aggressive demonstration. No doubt there were people in the demonstration who would like it to have turned into an insurrection, but the same goes for a million and one leftie demonstrations that have taken place in the US and in Europe.

Donald Trump is a performance artist very much in the mold of Andy Kaufman. Now perhaps Trump really started to believe in his theater. Maybe he really started to believe he was going to overturn the 2020 election result. But this was never going to happen. It wasn't supported by Pence, by the Republican Party leadership, by the Army or by the Police. It wasn't even supported by his own family members.

This latest raid is just the latest trawl to find some charge, any charge to frame Trump with. Is it good that Trump is the de-facto leader of one the US's two major parties? Certainly not. Of course its shameful that this is what the Republican party has produced. In the same way its shameful that the Democrats have given us Joe Biden. But I stand by my assertion that we know noting of substance now about Trump that we didn't know when he came down the escalator and announced he was standing for the Republican nomination.

Separately elected executive Presidencies are awful, particularly in the US's divided, divisive violent multi racial, multi cultural context. But if you choose to keep this system its no good whining about the inevitable bad results.

You're vastly *understating* the severity of the events:

On January 6, 2021, following then-U.S. President Donald Trump's defeat in the 2020 presidential election, a mob of his supporters attacked the Capitol Building in Washington, D.C. They sought to keep Trump in power by preventing a joint session of Congress from counting the electoral college votes to formalize the victory of President-elect Joe Biden. According to the House select committee investigating the incident, the attack was the culmination of a 7-part plan by Trump to overturn the election.[25][26] Five people died either shortly before, during, or following the event: one was shot by Capitol Police, another died of a drug overdose, and three died of natural causes.[20][27] Many people were injured, including 138 police officers. Four officers who responded to the attack died by suicide within seven months.[28] As of July 7, 2022, monetary damages caused by attackers exceed $2.7 million.[29]

Called to action by Trump,[30][31] thousands of his supporters gathered in Washington, D.C., on January 5 and 6 to support his false claim that the 2020 election had been "stolen by emboldened radical-left Democrats"[32][33][34][35] and to demand that Vice President Mike Pence and Congress reject Biden's victory.[36] Starting at noon on January 6,[37] at a "Save America" rally on the Ellipse, Trump repeated false claims of election irregularities[38] and said, "If you don't fight like hell, you're not going to have a country anymore."[39][40] In his hour-long speech Trump included 22 grammatical variations of the word "fight."[39][40][41] During and after his speech,[37] thousands of attendees, including many that Trump knew to be armed, walked to the Capitol and hundreds breached police perimeters[42][43] as Congress was beginning the electoral vote count.

More than 2,000 rioters entered the building,[44][45][46] many of whom occupied, vandalized, and looted it,[47][48] assaulted Capitol Police officers and reporters, and attempted to locate lawmakers to capture and harm them.[49] A gallows was erected west of the Capitol, and some rioters chanted "Hang Mike Pence" after he rejected false claims by Trump and others that the vice president could overturn the election results.[50]

A week after the riot, the House of Representatives impeached Trump for incitement of insurrection, making him the only U.S. president to have been impeached twice.[63]

June 2020 protests

Further information: Donald Trump photo-op at St. John's Church § Clearing Lafayette Square and St. John's

During the Trump administration, on June 1, 2020, amid mass protests in Washington, DC and nationally, which followed the murder of George Floyd in Minneapolis; Lafayette Square was forcefully cleared of peaceful protesters and clergy by police in riot gear using tear gas, by order of U.S. Attorney General William Barr, whose directive to clear the park resulted in a display of police aggression against a largely peaceful crowd.[19] The act, carried out by U.S. Park Police, Arlington County police, Federal Bureau of Prisons officers, and Secret Service officers,[20] was condemned by critics as a violation of the First Amendment right to freedom of assembly.[21][22] Bureau of Prison officials fired pepper spray munitions, contrary to the instructions of Park Police leadership.[20] Although the D.C. Metropolitan Police was not involved in the initial advance of police against the crowd, MPD officers fired tear gas at demonstrators as they moved away from the park toward 17th Street.[20]
