I think the biggest geopolitical news in decades warrants its own thread?

Russian President Vladimir Putin has signed treaties to annex four occupied regions of Ukraine, following a series of votes that Kyiv and the West have denounced as illegal, sham referendums.
Key points:

In a major speech held at the Kremlin on Friday, Mr Putin declared Luhansk, Donetsk, Kherson and Zaporizhzhia would be folded into Russia.

"This is the will of millions of people," he said in front of hundreds of dignitaries at the ornate St George's Hall.

"People have made their choice at referendums in Ukraine's territories," he said.

"There are four new regions of Russia."

Mr Putin said the people living in the annexed regions were now Russian compatriots "forever".

He accused Kyiv of threatening people who took part in the referendums with "repression" and warned "Kyiv should respect the will of the people", alluding to his repeated threats to use nuclear weapons to defend Russia's "territorial integrity".

"We will defend our land with all means ... we will work to increase security in [the] new regions," he said.

You know if these regions really wanted to join Russia they could have just had their own referendums before the war and if Ukraine didn't accept the results they could have declared independence from Ukraine with intention to join Russia and then Russia could have defended them and the war would have been seen as far more legitimate on Russia's part instead of a hostile takeover.

But he probably doesn't want those regions a choice to say no because he's a dick.

They held a referendum in 2014. They voted to be independent. Kiev attacked. You're having a goldfish memory brainlet moment again.

It's not news, it's just a tin pot dictator being a tin pot dictator. Making illegitimate claims as usual.

If Putin is a *tin pot dictator*, perhaps the USA-France-NATO could *go Haiti on him* and overturn his government and steal all the resources in the country.

The Civil War in Ukraine that the NED's coup d'état caused... looked very Haitian-intervention to me.

For rich oligarchs (East and West), we're all Haitians just waiting to have our governments overturned and our resources stolen.

Leekee ou mama, NATO oligarchs.

For some reason these annexations remind me of Henry Benedict Stuart, he was King of England, Scotland, France and Ireland. Why does nobody remember that?

Igor, you don't get it.

The Western support for Ukraine's current government... depends on Westerners not remembering anything that has happened in the last 30 years (Maidan, the promise not to expand NATO, all the oil wars of the West, etc.)

The West is governed by the brain-dead because it is brain-dead as a concept.

Queen Elizabeth marks the end of an ear, hopefully, of white Western European piracy and racism.

@Igor Antunov

It appears, Igor, that Russia won't be annexing anything after all, because Ukraine seems to be taking all of the supposed annexed territory completely back from Russian forces. Time for Russia to sue for peace and negotiate on Ukraine's terms given the current results on the battlefield map. Time for Russia to ACCEPT DEFEAT.

Perhaps after the Economic Crash of the Western economies, Putin could also free Haiti, Libya, Congo, Syria and a couple of other Western-raped basket cases.

I do not think so. The invasion against Ukraine is still in full swing if you believe russian media, and whether Russia advances or retreats this 'annexation' and fake referenda mean nothing. Better keep posting in the Russian War thread.

"Annexation signed into law"? :D
Leaders of 27 EU member states declared that they do not recognize new annexation of occupied territories of Ukraine by the Russian Federation Tsar Putin. Nor does the rest of the world, including China which .. abstained

North Korea maybe? What a combo.
B.t.w. I have just declared the moon to be my personal territory.

Like their predecessors the new "appointed governors" (read: Putin puppets, and where are the old ones?) will be soon killed by free franctireurs/partisans.

The only ones with an offensive going are the Ukrainians, russian soldiers are running and the new untrained cannon fodder does not even have winter clothes.

re Zelensky calling for nuclear strikes against Russia i take it this is faux news,
(though i do not hink this is an entirely bad idea :excited: )
like the recent "proposal" Zelensky is said to have made to germans, to pay 400 Euros each to support Ukraine.
Russian disinformation and diversion campaigns at work, to discredit and sow mistrust between western partners.
