Igor was half interesting when he talks about Russian point of view, as I think he has some useful insights into that. But as soon as he starts ranting about the evil NATO empire and their Ukrainian 'zerglings' and how hopeless they are - it gets tedious real fast.

Also, keep in mind that Igor was apparently somewhere in former Yugoslavia when the 99 NATO bombing went down and allegedly his family were forced to flee.... so you can't expect him to have a rational take on such matters.

Having a a Ukraine next to you that is not controllable, and not a client of Russia is not ideal for Putin - but it should be manageable. Far far worse for Russian security and economic interests is to launch a reckless and completely unsustainable war that they should have known would mobilize western economic and military might against them.

With one key difference - Russia no longer has a natural population growth to sustain and replenish society and the economy after these sorts of wars. Russia may well "win" this war, but it will almost certainly cripple her economically, and ensure that this is the last time they engage in such a war. A bit like Sparta at the end of the Peloponnesian war.

This is certainly good news for Ukraine. I've been arguing for nearly 2 years that we should judge this on the acquisition of territory, that punditry from both sides is worthless. And over recent days Ukraine has taken significantly more territory than it has lost.

The problem for the Liberals is that this goes against the narrative of the last 21 months. That the key to breaking Russia is in the south and that Crimea is Russia's achilles heel. Ukraine is still losing territory in the south. There position in the south continues to deteriorate, albeit at a very, very slow pace. This attack is in the north.

Crimea would be a far far bigger blow, it's just not realistic right now.

Crimea is Putin's Achilles heel that is why so much forces is committed there. There is a full defensive line across all of Ukraine but not on Russian territory. But as they commit more forces to defend Russia they will create gaps in Ukraine as material dwindles. This is merely a prelude of what is to come as Russia is slowly loosing it's large stocks of Soviet shit. Russia couldn't hold the line because conscripts with rifles are not really a match for army armed with artillery and tanks and apcs so this begs the question what will they do when the Soviet stocks run out. They already have minor shortages in some categories and in categories where stock is okay the repair facilities are struggling. A year from now all categories will be at severe strain.

Equipment:
- 2 IRIS-M and IRIS-T SLS air defense systems
- 10 Gepard anti-aircraft guns
- 12 PzH 2000 and 4 Zuzana 2 self-propelled howitzers
- An undisclosed number of RCH 155 self-propelled howitzers
- About 30 Leopard 1A5 tanks
- 400 MRAP (Mine-Resistant Ambush Protected) vehicles
- Logistic transport (trucks, tankers, all-terrain vehicles, pickups)

Other Items:
- Drones and anti-drone systems
- MK 556 assault rifles
- Medical supplies
- 1 field hospital


RCH 155 is juicy. That is a cheapened but more modern version of PZH2000 that is more mobile that should be theoretically as much protected as the PZH2000 with the same gun. But the most juiciest part is that it is the first artillery system that can fire while moving like a tank as an artillery piece so besides drones it is almost invulnreable to counter battery fire and is a counter battery hunter killer of artillery besides being an artillery piece itself. This is perhaps the most modern artillery piece in NATO arsenal. Cutting edge both in price, performance and capability.

The only interesting question about RCH 155 is if its protection is as good as PZH2000 that was basically immune to FPV drones that scratched it. If RCH 155 is the same then it is IDEAL artillery system of the future.

This is not a Porche of artillery systems, it is basically a Ferrari or Koenigsegg of artillery systems.
