You've got to give it to the Liberals, they're good at creating narratives.
They started off with the Russia could overrun Ukraine in a few days. Ukraine could mobilise not far off a million men in a matter of days. Sure properly equipping and deploying all of them would take a lot longer, but how Russia's 190000 invasion force was meant to overrun them in winter was a complete mystery. Ukraine could potentially have millions more support in terms of local militias that could operate behind the lines. Somehow Russia was supposed to pull off an operation Iraqi Freedom, when the whole scenario was so totally different. It was clearly intended to be a limited operation to force Ukraine to negotiate, although they no doubt hoped to seize control of significant amounts of territory in the south and east. No attempt was made to capture the cities in the north and west.
When Russia failed to achieve the ludicrous objectives that western liberal military "experts" had assigned to them, they could then talk up the amazing Ukrainian victories rather than asking how in God's name the Ukrainians manged to lose control of the Ukrainian isthmus and why there were no proper defences along the Ukrainian controlled Luhansk border with Russia.
Then we had the inevitable fall of Chassiv Yar. If there was one front line city in the East the Ukrainians should have been able to defend it was Chassiv Yar. The fact that Chassiv Yar didn't quickly fall became an excellent distraction from the advances into and beyond Avdiivka. The Liberals latest wheeze is to conjure up the spectre of the fall of Povrosk. This always looked extremely unlikely to me to happen any time soon. But of course the fact they're not losing it is an excellent distraction from the losses of territory and settlements to the south which are probably far more strategically important.
