Anyway, the pornographic filming industry (which is the actual subject of discussion here) is a little bit of a different beast from the ordinary sex industry.
I'd imagine poverty plays less of an influence in the porn industry than it does in the sex industry.

By definition , pornography is the " writings of prostitutes " .

If it didn't involve depictions of prostitution , then I would regard it as being more so aptly considered to be erotica .

The question remains however , what is the distinction between the two ? I feel that these two articles lay out well what should be the criteria in discerning erotic art from pornographic smut .

But I also understand that in some more prudish cultures , such as the U.S. , in contrast to that of such other countries as Germany , with its free body culture , for example , even nude paintings , and sculptures could be considered indecent , due to the nudity taboo .

Tokyo- People who have suffered from appearing in pornographic videos joined lawyers and others at a news conference after a lawmaker-initiated bill to prevent the exploitation of adult video performers was passed into law on June 15, and praised the new law as one step giving hope to victims.

The new law is the first to be tailored specifically to victims of adult video exploitation, regardless of age or gender, giving them the right to unconditionally terminate their contracts at any time up to a year after a video's release. As a special measure, this will be extended to two years for the two years following the law's commencement.

The law also requires a one-month period between the signing of a contract and the filming of an adult video, and four months between the filming of the video and its release. Contract misrepresentations are punishable with a prison sentence of up to three years or a fine of up to 3 million yen (about $22,000), while corporations can be fined up to 100 million yen (about $745,000).

Furthermore, the law makes it, in principle, illegal to force people appearing in the videos to take part in sex acts.

Interestingly the law is so far reaching because they couldn't give special treatment to 18 and 19 year olds who were previously protected due to being below the age of adulthood but are now in the same boat as those ages 20+.

The legislation, which was initially proposed by opposition lawmakers and taken up by a cross-party group, was sparked by the realization that lowering the age of adulthood to 18 would have implications for previous safeguards for young people working in porn or the gravure industry, and fears that teenagers would be exploited and coerced into contracts they either did not understand or did not really wish to sign (e.g., being scouted as a “model” but then auditions and jobs becoming sexual). These fears come in the wake of the coercion scandals that rocked the adult video industry in Japan in the late 2010s.

In the end, after a certain amount of wrangling, the law went further than expected, in part because a simple workaround that would make employment of 18- and 19-year-old in porn a legal exception was apparently not possible.

I have read that the Japanese Communist Party also seeks to crack down upon the depiction of minors in pornography . It's just that they remain opposed to censoring anime and manga .
