Confidence Vote Procedes As Planned!

After some in-fighting by the various parties, and national protests the Clerk of the Parliament has announced that a great compromise has been reached and that the vote of confidence shall move forward as planned, though with a one-day "cooling off" period for all parties involved.

The leader of the SLN, Dave, when reached for comment had this to say: "I think this necessary step by the Parliamentary Clerk really shows his commitment to Democracy. I think his willingness to carry forth with the elections shows that he has the will of the people in mind at all times".

As part of the non-partisan compromises reached by various party leaders, it has been newly established that the Clerk himself, or his later appointed successor shall be the only person qualified to put forth votes or motions. Once a Prime Minister has been elected and a new government seated the new rules can be re-visited, but for now, the order the Clerk has established seems to be the best thing PoFo has going.

In other news, one entire group of people from the small port town of Heimdall have publicly voiced their faith in God, and believe him to be the one true faith for all of PoFoians. ;)

Whales spotted off the Southern Coast

In an unbelievably rare occurance a group of humpback whales have been spotted off the southern coast of the Republic of PoFo. Native PoFo scientist Andres, spoke eloquently about the beautiful creatures. "It is just such a beautiful thing to see these creatures frolicking in our waters like this. I suspect the Norwiegans are driving them further and further west and it looks like we get to benefit from this." Andres notes that Norway still allows whaling, one of only a handful of countries to do so.

EU Awaits Word of Confidence Vote

European Union leaders today voiced mixed concerns following the announcement that the Republic of PoFo had resumed it's confidence vote in the newly formed Grand Coalition. Angela Merkel, noted her ties to PNL leader Dave, and voiced her sincere belief that The ROP was now on track once again. Vladimir Putin of Russia also echoed this sentiment, though with his usual reserve he only commented "Good for them."

Other European leaders were equally enthusiastic. It is well known that PoFo's natural resourses and long scrapped plans for stabilization of it's currency have brought ROP much closer to the European Union. Previously Germany, France, and Italy had voiced strong concerns about bringing PoFo into the fold, fearing a large devaluation of the Euro. Promises by several members of the Grand Coaltion have only led to more positive stances by these objecting members.

In the United States President Obama stated that "It is important for all nations to obey the rule of law and not descend into anarchy. We stand by the efforts of those currently keep the ROP together, and hope to one day formalize all relations with those who shall rule the nation."

Finally, Iceland, the RoP's closest neighbor pledged one hundred kegs of their finest brew to the winning coalition and all their MPs, in an a half hearted effort to congratulate them on their latest bid for Freedom and Democracy.

New Voting Commences in Earnest!

After much delay, and haggling over the interim constitution, voting has officially been set for 12:00 tomorrow CDT (GMT-5). People all throughout the Republic of PoFo are already lining up to cast their ballots in what promises to be an historic election. Party leaders for the seven remaining major parties each have shown their confidence in their own ability to triumph at the polls. Citing the discontent of the "average citizen" each has moved to mobilize what they see as their party base.

Among the SLD, the party at the center of much controversy in the previously failed election cycle, it appears new leadership is on the horizon. Their former leader, Paradigm, cited burnout as the reason for his recent withdrawal from politics. Found at his summer retreat in the south, Paradigm declined further comment.

Of further note in this latest round of elections is the disolving of one of the more influential parties, and one that had aspired to hold the middle ground in all things, the PUC! The party seemed to be doomed from the start as in-fighting split it into two wings right after the last election. Then little-by-little the membership base simply fell away. The fiery Clausewitz, believed held in-communicado by Russian agents who have accused him of diamond smuggling, the one-time Aussie, one-time PoFo Retired Lt. Col. Arbiter Azariah, and perhaps of some interest the defection of Donald to the staunchly right wing PoP; all go to show the fractured nature of the PUC that made it more resemble a patchwork quilt of idealogues as opposed to a seemless fugue of ornate beauty.

Last, but not least is the remarkable restructuring and organization undergone by the SN-RF. The merger of the hardest of the left leaning parties, and the near unity with which this new "United Popular Front" operates is as amazing as it is portentious of the future. Indeed, if the early absentee votes are any indication of what is to come, it may well be a landslide victory for the SN-RF. With a uniquely qualified joint party leader in Honisoit, and stalwart stewardship from the likes of Ingliz, Valdimir, and Potemkin one can only wonder if the election is theirs to lose?

Remember to pick up your copy of the Gazette on Tuesday May 12, for all the official election coverage none of those other, lesser, ragsheets dare to offer!
