Explosions seemingly targeting walkie-talkies used by Hezbollah go off in multiple cities in Lebanon
William Christou

Explosions seemingly targeting walkie-talkies used by Hezbollah went off in multiple cities in Lebanon on Wednesday afternoon, writes my colleague, William Christou, from Beirut.

It come just a day after a wide-ranging attack in which pagers used mostly by Hezbollah members exploded, injuring over 2,800 and killing 12. Blasts occurred in the southern suburbs of Beirut, as well as the cities of Nabatieh, Tyre and Saida in south Lebanon.

A source in Hezbollah confirmed that walkie-talkies used by the group were being targeted. A senior security source said that the explosions were small in size, similar to yesterday’s attack, and said that security agencies would investigate the matter further.

There were not yet any reports of casualties, but ambulances were heard by a Guardian reporter heading to the southern suburbs of Beirut.

The US should of course immediately add Israel to the state sponsors of terror list and place major sanctions and an arms embargo on Israel. But because this is a US approved terrorist attack, they will at most issue a statement about how they're "concerned"

Israel is once again in violation of international humanitarian law through its use of pagers as “booby traps” that put civilians at risk.

“The use of an explosive device whose exact location could not be reliably known would be unlawfully indiscriminate … and as a result, would strike military targets and civilians without distinction."

'Distinction' is a fundamental principle of international humanitarian law which provides that parties to an armed conflict must “at all times distinguish between the civilian population and combatants and between civilian objects and military objectives and accordingly shall direct their operations only against military objectives”.

Indiscriminate attacks and the use of indiscriminate means and methods of warfare are prohibited.

Absolutely hilarious to see leftist rape enjoyers being this butthurt about this attack against Hezbollah's C3 network. Also, one can reliably know the beepers and walkie-talkies were in the possession of people who were part of or connected to Hezbollah's military wing.

Bollocks!

Dr Salah Zeineldine, chief medical officer at the American University of Beirut (AUB) Medical Center, says that it is common for medical staff to use pagers - “We [at AUB] use them."

Only a specific batch of beepers, made in Hungary and sold to Hezbollah, blew up.

@wat0n

If these devices were solely given to Hezbollah's military operatives, why are medical staff turning up in the casualty figures?
#15325235
@ingliz have you considered the doctor may in fact belong to Hezbollah's military wing? It certainly needs medical personnel to report to duty if needed.

Another consequence of this attack is that anyone who's monitoring Lebanon's hospitals will learn the real names of those who received pagers and walkie-talkies bought by Hezbollah, and also who their relatives are.

The most likely consequence I see is Israel will get into a shooting war with an opponent that can shoot back and has enough missiles to overwhelm its anti-missile defences.

Is anyone here surprised that you are defending a terrorist attack? I doubt it.

I am certainly not surprised to see an October 7 massacre supporter like yourself whine about a rather precise attack against Hezbollah's C3 network. Again, it's not about "what" but "who".

Iran has already shown it can coordinate an attack that tests your defences.

:lol:

So you think Iran would directly attack Israel over this? I very much doubt it. That defeats the purpose of having a proxy.

@wat0n The Taliban defeated the USA by using a non recorded Language spoken just by 5000 persons...
Their version of Navaho code

Excellent operation against Hezbollah... respect mossad...

But Israel should not underestimate Hezbollah.. they have more rockets then the Iron Dome can intercept.

Hezbollah was the first army who used ultracheap drones (Quadcopter) loaded with explosives against ISIS.

Israeli army declined they were able to beat well equiped and trained ( by Soviet Union) Arab armies... Now the IDF struggles with poorly equipped militias..

Netanyahu wants no peace but also no escalation, he wants to keep the situation boiling to stay in power and out of jail.

Terrorists getting their hands and balls blown off is not a terrorist act. If you didn't notice they don't wear any insignia and hide within the population. Classic terrorist organisation of cowards.

@JohnRawls

If Hezbollah had placed explosives and shot in civilian devices imported to Israel would you be saying the same?

Would you be applauding 3,000 injured Jews?

@Ter

Hezbollah's military units are no different to the IDF or any other army. They are uniformed and wear insignia when on duty.

In the '70s, when I served in the British Army, we were encouraged (It wasn't quite an order but close enough) not to wear our uniforms when off-duty.

The ICTY's prosecutor found that the NATO bombing of Serbia's RTS TV station in 1999 was legal because it was an attack on Serbia's C3 network (specifically, the TV station was used to coordinate Serbian air defenses) despite it killing 10-17 civilians and wounding several others.

In comparison, almost all casualties have been part of Hezbollah and less civilians have been killed than in Serbia as far as I'm aware. And the attack was seemingly larger in scope too, since a larger part of the network was destroyed than in Serbia.

The ICTY OTP didn't even try to prosecute anyone in NATO.
