Wow! Constructive response.
Chomsky is right... our society has made a steady march toward social progress, and of course it did not come in a single and steady wave. It came through forward pushes, regressions, attacks, defenses, wins, and losses on either side. However, while this progression of social values has occurred and while our collective conscience about social and environmental issues has grown, our awareness of the greater economic image has dwindled and we have failed to see the overwhelming tide. The share of wealth of the top percentage points of population has grown exponentially to the detriment of us all. We tend to our garden without recognizing that we are already knee deep in shit. There's no easy solution to the problem, but the least we can do is recognize that the problem exists.
