Thirty years ago, when Jampel Gyatso handed in his application to help the Epic of King Gesar get a place in the UNESCO Intangible Cultural Heritage List, very few people knew who the King Gesar was.

Today, the 75-year-old expert feels proud that the great heroic epic has made itself well-known and more funds have been pouring into its preservation.
