I actually have a copy of Surikov's A Young Woman at Prayer on my wall at home, although I am thinking of replacing it with a Kandinsky, possibly Composition VII.

I find her attractive.

I find the women painted by Francesco also fascinating.

He has a particular way of capturing both feminine resilience and determination in a single instance. His Meditation is probably the best example: a bruised, battered Italia, breast exposed, cross fervently clutched...and yet there is something in her eyes, in her glare, that says "Don't count me out just yet!".

I must admit that I am a fan of socialist realism paintings because of its propagandising and political nature.

Malaya Sadovaya street, by Alexander Semionov (1979)

I particularly like this painting because it managed to evade detection by Stalinist censorship and portray the reality of the Great Purges.

Thanks for sharing that one, I'm not really familiar with Kramskoi at all.

Religious Procession in Kursk Province

That's my favorite Repin. I think it shows an element of pre-Revolutionary Russian society that no history textbook could really convey.

I like this one, it reminded me of a rainy day I spent in Moscow looking for the Tretyakov gallery. I know the picture is of Petersburg but still...

Leonid Afremov - Reflection of the Night. And I don't care, if you haven't heard of him, because I haven't either. I just saw this on site and I liked what I saw.

I was just browsing this thread again and saw this picture: I was blown away, I can't believe I didn't notice it earlier!
