What we know about the world is mediated, most often, by the news. As gatekeepers the news media builds our public understanding of things. What if it was malicious?

Most news is for entertainment purposes. Only a few less read newspapers seek to inform.
Ninety nine percent or more of what happens in the world is not news.
People eat , walk around, communicate and grass grows. The sun rises and sets trees wave in the breeze ect ect---. But being curious animals we need more especially rare events they are real news.
A darstardly murder, a daring robbery, a very unusual accident.
The snag is we read and tend to think these things are widespread and sometimes this suits those who wish to manipulate public opinion.
