The US doesn't ever "help", everything is done as part of the ambition to be the dominant global power. (Christian) East Timor asked for US help when it was invaded by (Muslim) Indonesia in 1975, the US did not help and in fact supplied weapons to Indonesia.
East Timor and its people bravely sided with the West against the Japanese in WW2. When they needed help years later they did not get any help, the US walked away and many were slaughtered.
The Japanese during WW2 committed atrocities in China, cutting off babies heads and skewering them on spears stuck in the ground, their barbarity is well known with ample documentation. The US now has military bases all over Japan, yet China has no reason to perceive a threat?
The US dropped bombs on Vietnam, Laos, Cambodia, Korea, Indonesia, the US occupied part of China between 1945 and 1949. None of the countries (all close to China) ever asked to be helped by being bombed where today children still regularly lose limbs because of unexploded US ordnance.
The US tested nuclear weapons on Australian soil making areas uninhabitable for centuries.
The US destroyed the lives of the people who lived on Bikini Atoll by testing 23 nuclear weapons over 12 years, residents were forcibly relocated and today are plagued by alcoholism and destitution, forever separated from their once idyllic homeland.
It is perverse to describes these (and many more) acts as "help".
Watch for yourself how the US "helped" East Timor:
